Trompe-l’oeil, from 1520 to the present day
On February 26th, a group of AFMO members joined us at Musée Marmottan Monet for a private visit of the exhibition “Trompe-l’oeil, from 1520 to the present day” with art historian Ingrid Held.
Over the centuries, trope-l’oeil has been used in various media and has proven to be multifaceted. Not only does it play with the viewer’s gaze, but it is also a nod to potential traps set by our own perceptions. More than eighty key works ranging from the 16th to the 21st century, coming from both private and public collections in Europe and the United States are on display. In addition, eight works from the Museum’s collection have been restored and are presented to the public.
