Patron Pass Tour: “Robert Ryman. The act of looking.” @Musée de l’Orangerie, Paris
On March 27, 2024, AFMO patrons enjoyed a private tour at the Musée de l’Orangerie of the exhibition “Robert Ryman. The act of looking” led by the Orangerie’s assistant curator, Guillaume Fabius.
This visit offered insight into Ryman’s unique perspective on minimalism. The American artist, who once said “There is never a question of what to paint but only how to paint,” experimented with unconventional materials (such as chalk, polymer paint, and industrial plastic sheeting) and display methods. He considered white paint a neutral medium through which to explore the possibilities of painting. The paintings in the exhibition–which includes the last set of eight pictures he created during his lifetime, alongside three of Monet’s variations on the Rouen cathedral–encourage visitors to interrogate the connection between impressionism and contemporary art.
