This spring, Fondation Louis Vuitton is hosting two exhibitions simultaneously: “Matisse: The Red Studio” and “Ellsworth Kelly, Shapes and Colors, 1949-2015”.
In collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and SMK - Statens Museum for Kunst, “Matisse: The Red Studio” centers on the genesis and history of the famous 1911 masterpiece. The large canvas depicts the artist’s studio filled with his paintings and sculptures, furniture, and decorative objects. This exhibition reunited the artworks shown in The Red Studio for the first time since they left Matisse’s studio in Issy-les-Moulineaux.
“Ellsworth Kelly, Shapes and Colors” will be the first exhibition in France to offer a broad overview that traces key works from pivotal periods in his career. Regarded as one of the most significant American abstract painters and sculptors. Ellensworth Kelly’s career, which spanned seven decades, was marked by his artistic independence from any school or movement, and by his groundbreaking contributions to 20th century painting and sculpture.
The dialogue between the two exhibitions will be an unique juxtaposition and opportunities that illustrates the evolution of 20th-century art.
