Opened in 1852, the same year as the Orangerie, the Hôtel Drouot has witnessed remarkable auctions. From the sale of Louis-Philippe I’s goods in 1852 and that of Delacroix’s works a few years later, to the auction of André Breton’s collection more recently in 2003, this Hôtel has always hosted exceptional auctions. When the headquarters were being rebuilt in the late 1970s, the auction house was temporarily moved to, what was at that time, the Gare d’Orsay. The Hôtel Drouot consists today of 15 auction rooms where sales are operated Monday through Saturday
by over 70 French auction houses.
