Feb 20, 2022 - Jul 10, 2022
Placing cinema in the context of 19th-century Parisian visual culture, City of Cinema: Paris 1850–1907 explores how film emerged amid a wave of social, political, artistic, and technological developments. The exhibition brings together paintings, sculpture, posters, prints, photography, and film to reflect the range of artistic experiments that culminated in cinema as a mass medium.
This exhibition was organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles and the Musées d’Orsay et de l’Orangerie, Paris.
The exhibition “Cinema at last! Arts, images, and entertainment in France 1833-1907“, was first shown at the Musée d’Orsay from September 28, 2021 to January 16, 2022.
