April in Paris Weekend – AFMO Event
The American Friends of Musée d’Orsay hosted a four-day Patrons trip to Paris on April 23-26.
The weekend’s centerpiece was a dinner by Potel et Chabot in the Orangerie Museum, where the reknowed Monet’s Waterlilies galleries are being renovated in part by a grant from AFMO.
To begin the weekend, US Ambassador Jane Hartley invited guests to the exquisite, art-filled American Residence for a reception offered by the Four Seasons Hotel Georges V Paris. The next evening, Le Bristol, Paris and its Michelin starred chef Eric Frechon, hosted a reception at the Orsay where guests toured the Pierre Bonnard. Painting Arcadia exhibition and viewed Courbet’s masterpiece “The Painter’s Studio” currently under restoration at the museum. A generous AFMO grant contributes to the project.
A lunch hosted by German Ambassador Susanne Wasum-Rainer was a feast for the eyes as guests toured the spectacular Empire Style Residence on the Seine, once belonging to Napoléon’s stepson, Eugène de Beauharnais.Guests were treated to behind-the-scenes events including exclusive art and fashion tours at the Louis Vuitton Foundation and Picasso Museum. They had a rare chance to see Yves Saint Laurent’s haute couture reserves, sketches and prototypes in his own workshop and office. AFMO members were also welcomed to the private Hermès Museum and rooftop garden. This fabulous weekend ended with the visit of the Maurice Denis Museum in Saint Germain-en-Laye. Our guests enjoyed a private tour of the artist’s home and a brunch served in Denis’s chapel.
