AFMO May Event 2014
On May 14, 2014, our co-chairs Peter and Susan Solomon and Guy Cogeval, President des musées d’Orsay et de l’Orangerie, welcomed guests to our spring event around the stunning Van Gogh/Artaud exhibition, “The Man Suicided by Society”. Art historian Christophe Boicos opened the evening with a slide lecture on the life of Van Gogh, effortlessly making the tormented artist come alive through his work and preparing our visit of the exhibition. Guy Cogeval, Olivier Simmat, Laurence des Cars and curator Isabelle Cahn joined us there to welcome our guests, answer questions, and discuss the beautiful works of art, many of which on loan from rarely shown private collections.
A quickly changing very Impressionist sky and cool winds did not prevent our guests from taking in the magnificent view from the 5th floor terrace, sweeping across the Seine, past the Louvre, and all the way to Sacre Coeur, the imposing white landmark church on Paris’ northern border. Our partners from the Four Seasons George V treated us to Artistic Director Jeff Leatham’s extraordinary display of countless large orange roses, arranged in “balls’ of varying sizes on each table – electric candles flickering – and artfully massed around the entrance table as a fragrant carpet.
The three-course dinner was signed by chef Eric Briffard in collaboration with Potel et Chabot’s head chef: Source of Watercress Cream, Sea Bass with Black Lemon, and a Strawberry Meringue Shell. We gratefully acknowledge the extraordinary leadership and cooperation of Guy Cogeval, Olivier, Simmat, the curators, and all the wonderful people with whom it is our pleasure to work. Thank you to our sponsors Christie’s and the Four Seasons George V. Thank you to our members and guests for the success of this evening and their continued support.
